Getting my boys unplugged at Busch Gardens Williamsburg #NaturalFun #MC

I attended an event on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Busch Gardens Williamsburg. I received free admission to the park as a thank you for participating.

My boys are 8 and 5 and had never been to Busch Gardens Williamsburg before. We were able to change that when we attended the Mommy & Me blogger event a couple weeks ago thanks to Mom Central Consulting and Busch Gardens. Once we got to the park we were sent to Castle O'Sullivan for our meeting, animal show and breakfast before being let loose in to the park for the day.

Stacy DeBroff from Mom Central was the host of our Mommy & Me #naturalfun event. Mom Central Consulting conducted a survey to about 870 Moms across America on behalf of Busch Gardens asking about 30 questions about unstructured play time, adventure and just plain old fun like those of us in our late 20s to late 30s enjoyed as children. Do you know what the survey discovered of the children we are raising? That the majority of the children of the Moms who were surveyed only get about 2 hours a day of "natural Fun" doing activities like riding their bikes, playing outdoor games like hide and seek or exploring about nature. I'll be the first to admit my boys enjoy their iPad, Wii, Nintendo 3DS, Playstation and tv time but I make sure they have good amounts of non battery operated and outdoor fun.

After we met the other local bloggers, writers and media teams we were set loose on the park. It was raining so we weren't sure what to do first so I opened up a map, we popped up our umbrella and pulled on our ponchos, determined to have fun rain or shine. Our first stop was the stables of the Busch Gardens Clydesdale horses. Horses have been my favorite animal since I was a little girl and I adore the clydesdales. This guy was huge!

We decided that since it was all ready raining why not just get wet? So the boys had their first Busch Gardens Williamsburg ride- Escape from Pompeii. I some how managed to stay completely dry the entire ride until we got to the bottom of the drop and someone paid a quarter to squirt us with the water machines. The splashes from the ride didn't get me at all but some random guy made sure we were soaked at the end of the ride. We all expected to get soaked so it was all in good fun.

After escaping Pompeii we went over to the Sesame Street Forest of Fun. My 5 year old is a BIG Sesame Street fan so I knew we would be spending a good amount of our day here. I was very surprised at how much fun my 8 year old had in the Sesame Street forest. I guess you're never too old for Elmo? In the Sesame Street forest of fun is where both boys got to experience the twists and turns and ups and downs of their roller coaster ride on Grover's Alpine Express roller coaster.

Being at Busch Gardens Williamsburg from open to close is a lot of walking. To save their little legs some leg cramps we rode the train around the park and made stops at each train station. Both boys loved that we kept getting the blue engine that they kept calling Thomas. They have rode real trains before so this was just as exciting to them as all the shows and rides. Then we took a calming stroll on the (man made, 15 minute version) Rhine River cruise.

I loved getting to run around and play all day with my guys outside at Busch Gardens Williamsburg and that trip has set up a summer of limited gadget play and unlimited natural fun. We kept missing the show times for the different animal shows and we didn't get to visit all of the rides we had intended to ride so I guess that just means a good excuse to get tickets to Busch Gardens Williamsburg and go back for more right?
