Holiday craft for kids- Hostess cake pops {$100 Walmart card giveaway} #HostessHolidaySweeps

Mama Bee Does disclaimer

I love crafting with my boys. Having products that make crafting a little easier for them is a must have for me. Being able to take something like Hostess snack cakes and turn them in to an edible craft is just that- easy. Having the individual cakes and a few items like icing, candy melts, and candy and you and your kids can have a cute holiday centerpiece.

Hostess cakes holiday craft hostessholidaysweeps

Using the Hostess Twinkies, Ding Dongs and Sno ball cakes your kids can create different holiday characters or designs. We used the Twinkies and decorated little Christmas trees on them. The Ding Dongs were turned in to Rudolph the red nosed reindeer and penguins. The Sno balls were very easy to turn in to snowmen (or snow women). You can find these items and all the things you need to make this centerpiece at your local Walmart. #HostessHoliday

Hostess cake snoball snowman craft hostessholidaysweeps

For the snowman you need:
Sno ball Hostess cakes
mini chocolate chips
white icing (squeezable kind or in a pastry bag with icing tip)
orange Starburst candy
optional cake pop stick

Use the white icing to attach the chocolate chips to the sno ball for the snowman eyes and mouth. Mold a piece of orange Starburst candy to look like a carrot shape and attach it to the Sno ball with icing as well. You can enjoy the snowman as he is or you can use melted almond bark or candy melts to attach the cake on to a stick. Let the candy melts reharden. Some cakes may stay on the stick without the candy melt but this just adds extra support to the bottom of the cake to keep it in place.

hostess cake penguin craft hostessholidaysweeps

To make the Hostess penguin you need:
Hostess Ding Dongs
white icing (squeezable pouch kind or in a pastry bag with icing tip)
orange Starburst candy
optional cake pop stick

Draw white lines around the edge of the ding dong cakes to give it a penguin look. Dot on more icing for the two eyes. Mold a small piece of an orange Starburst candy in to a small roll then fold the roll gently in half to make a beak. Slide the cake on to a stick or paper straw and attach with candy melts and let harden so the cake will not slide down the stick.

hostess reindeer cake craft hostessholidaysweeps

To make the reindeer you'll need:
Hostess Ding Dong cakes (Twinkies also make cute reindeer)
small chocolate covered pretzels
icing for eyes, mouth and nose (squeezable pouch kind or in a pastry bag with icing tip)
optional cake pop stick

Carefully break a pretzel in half to look like antlers. Attach the pretzel pieces to the top of the Ding Dong cake and you can make them more stable by applying a dab of icing to the hole then adding the pretzel pieces. Using the icing, add eyes and a mouth. If you want Rudolph add a drop of red icing to the center for his nose. Add the reindeer to the stick as described for the penguin and snowman.

hostess twinkie craft hostessholidaysweeps

For the Twinkie Christmas trees:
Twinkies
green icing
colored icing choices for tree decoration
yellow Starburst candy (or yellow icing)

Draw a zigzag design on the Twinkie with the green icing. Use the icing colors of your choosing to add ornaments or decorations to the trees. I just added a few red dots to ours. For the tree topper I attached tiny pieces of yellow Starburst candy. It was so small I didn't try to attempt to make it star shaped but you get the idea anyways, right? Attach to cake pop stick if you choose.

All of these cakes can be made in to cake pops and put in treat bags for the children to take to their classroom holiday parties or add the cake pop sticks to a holiday themed bucket or jar and set them on the table as a centerpiece for the holiday parties at home or work.
