I shared with y'all a couple weeks ago about the Odwalla Game Day Challenge we were participating in this month. We have participated in different SIMPLE Service projects with Champions for Kids. After much thought on who would get our donation this month, we decided to give to our local Boys & Girls Club. The Boys & Girls Club provides a fun, positive, stable environment for our youth that produces role models, winners and leaders for our community. Two quotes I found on the Boys & Girls Club web site made me feel that they would be a great organization to give our Odwalla Game Day Challenge donation to: "Within every child there is potential for greatness" The other quote I read was "You must be GREAT to inspire GREATNESS". I knew that they care about the well being of children so much that they would be a great candidate for our Odwalla Game Day Challenge donation of toys, games and sports equipment and other goodies to help keep children active.
Our Odwalla Game Day Challenge event was rained out by a thunderstorm (we also lost power that day) so I am having to meet up with different participants to get their donations and some are bringing their donations to me at my home. I have not completed the amount of donations that I had in mind so I have not delivered our donations yet. When I first made my trip to Walmart for some donations of our own and the Odwalla juice, our Walmart was plenty stocked on toys and sports equipment but was about sold out of the Odwalla (or atleast the shelves were really bare). You can see our trip to Walmart with my Odwalla Game Day Challenge Google+ album to follow our path to purchase of Odwalla and toys/sports gear. I went back a second time a different week to get more Odwalla and the shelf was still empty. I asked a Walmart employee if they had more to stock and they said no not yet they are still waiting on a delivery truck. They had sold all that was on the shelf except the Odwalla Chocolate Protein Monster drink because they had to pull that from the shelves. There's a recall on that particular flavor due to a peanut/tree nut allergy reaction that has been reported.
Our local Boys & Girls Club offered a "wish list" that also included games, tumble mats, disposable supplies for meals (plates, utensils, cups), a digital camera, folding chairs and volunteers to work 5-6pm to help members with homework. I hope that everything we can pull together with our donation drive can assist the children enjoy their time at the club and help mark items off their wish list.
