3 ingredient no bake peppermint Oreo truffles recipe

This post is sponsored by Oreo. I was first introduced to Oreo truffles three years ago. They have been a holiday dessert special request by my boys ever since then. There are only 3 ingredients in the Oreo truffles and they require no baking. Easy right? Yes, very much so. The hardest thing you have to do is crush the cookies and melt the chocolate that you coat the truffles in. I have a twist on the original Oreo truffles this year. We were sent a package of peppermint Oreo cookies. So I made some peppermint Oreo truffles in hopes that my boys would like them just as much as they enjoy the originals.

Peppermint OREO truffles (aka cookie balls)
Prep time:20 minutes Total time: 1 hr 30 min. Makes:about 48 truffles

Ingredients:
1 package (8 oz) cream cheese; softened
1 package (15.25 oz) OREO cookies, peppermint; finely crushed
4 packs (4 oz each) semi-sweet baking chocolate; melted
*optional crushed peppermint candies for truffle topping

Directions:
Finely crush the Oreo cookies (until they look like coffee grounds). In a large bowl, mix the cream cheese and cookie crumbs together until well blended. Will make a large dough like ball. Pinch off small amounts and roll each pinch in to a small (about 1 inch) balls. Freeze the balls for about 10 minutes. While they are in the freezer melt your chocolate. You can use a double boiler or the microwave depending on what the instructions on the chocolate packs tell you that is recommended. Dip balls in the melted chocolate; place in single layer on wax paper-lined cookie sheets. Sprinkle with the crushed peppermint candy if you choose. Refrigerate the truffles 1 hour until firm and chocolate coating has hardened. Store left overs (if you're lucky enough to have any left) in tightly covered container in the refrigerator.

I'm happy to say that the peppermint Oreo truffles were a hit with my boys. You can use the same recipe I gave you here with any variety of Oreo cookies. Birthday cake would make a good truffle as well I bet. I'll have to see if I can hunt down a package of the Birthday Cake Oreo cookies and try those next. Also, for the skeptics when you see cream cheese as one of the ingredients you don't get a overly strong cream cheese taste in the truffles. It's just the "glue" that holds the truffle together. All you can pretty much taste is the flavor of the Oreo cookie and the chocolate coating. They really are a delicious and make a great holiday party dessert or snack.
